The costume contest on the 24th was raining and then stopped around 1:15.  3 large dogs showed up and 7 small dogs showed up. The costumes were very cute.  Next year I hope we have good weather.

We have a new volunteer Jackie.  Thanks Jackie for coming aboard to the dog park.

Small dog park...
I was informed that there are black mushrooms around the fence line.  This could be dangerous to your dogs.  One of the members did do her best to get rid of them.  I will check it out today.

FYI....I see so many members that don't leash their dogs from the car to the entrance gate and from the exit gate to the cars. PLEASE keep your dogs on a leash until you are inside the gate. I would also recommend that you keep your leash with you when in the dog park because if something happens to your dog you can get the leash on them. Don't leave the leash hanging on the entrance and exit areas.

FYI>>>>>9.08 ANIMALS AND POULTRY NOT TO RUN AT LARGE (Rep. & Recr. Ord. #1769 – 7/15/85). (1) ANIMALS AT LARGE PROHIBITED (Rep. & Recr. Ord. #1867 – 2/1/88). If any animal is at large within the City, the owner of the animal is guilty of a violation and subject to a penalty as provided in sec. 9.30 of this chapter

At Large (Am. Ord. #2024 – 2/4/91). Just another reminder about keeping yourself and your dogs cool for this coming up weekend.  In the high 80's and 90's.  And NEVER EVER leave your dog in the car when it is hot out.  Or leave a child in the car.

West Bend Small Dog Park...
The K-9 Friends of West Bend...we are looking for donations to build a gazebo for the small dog park.  There is really no shade for the dog owners to sit under while watching their dogs run and play.  If you can make a donation, please send to :

Thanks to everyone that showed up at the small dog park for the ribbon cutting yesterday. Just a reminder this week is going to be hot outside, bring water for your dogs. Best time to go to the park if you can is around 7 p.m. that is when the sun is going behind the trees up at the larger area dog park and then means less sun on the small dog park

Information from the West Bend Police Dept............

this is what the police dept. said when asked.....what they would consider to be aggressive dog behavior that would warrant them coming to investigate at the dog park or anywhere for that matter. They said any time you feel that you or your dog are threatened by another dog is enough to call. Now I hope people use good judgement.

Small Breed Dog Park Update

Was up at the dog park this morning for a meeting about the small breed dog park.  The fencing will be going up in a week and the concrete for the entrance and service gate in about 2 weeks.  Please do not use the small breed dog park until the park is completely finished.  We will have something posted and I think we will have a ribbon cutting for the park.  Things are looking up.

Small Breed Dog Park

Meeting today for the small breed dog park was informative.  Craig and Jim from the Park Dept have a meeting with the Town of West Bend Town Board on Wednesday, June 10th and I should have the decision about extending the small breed dog park by 30 feet by the end of this week.  Once we know that the Town of West Bend will let us have the 30 feet to extend the small breed dog park, then you will see concrete slabs going in and the fencing going up.

We will be up at Regner Park on July 4th with a booth for donations for the small breed dog park, user fee tags will be sold and information about the small breed dog park.

West Bend Dog Park

Remember to bring a jug water for your dogs to the dog park now that the weather is getting warmer. Make sure your dog rest after running through the park.  Overheating of your dog can come on very quickly.  Never pour water over your dog if they get overheated.  Wet down their pads and their groin area.  Get them out of the sun.  Let them relax until they have cooled down.

Another reminder, Pick up after your dog.  That is the biggest problem we have in the dog park is that some members do not pick up after their dog. If you see any dog waste please pick up.

Small Breed Dog Park.....Sorry I have not been posting for a while but spring and early summer is a lot yard work and it is hard for me to getting around so things get done slowly around here.  No update on the small breed dog park.  Donations are coming in very slowly but are coming in.  I have a dog park meeting on June 8th and I will post the out come of the meeting.  We have Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center that sponsored 3 doggy waste stations for the small breed dog park.  A shout out to WVRC for their donation for the doggy waste stations. We are waiting for the Town of West Bend for the ok to extend the park 30 feet south of the original layout of the park, I hope to have information about the extension of the park from the meeting on the 8th.  Either a yes or a no, you will start seeing work on the park very very soon.  Please donate to the Small Breed Dog Park.  Make checks out to K9 Friends and on the memo line of your check write small breed.  Mail to Pam Kidney 713 Riverview Dr West Bend WI 53095

West Bend Dog Park...The shelter for the West Bend Dog Park is being put on the back burning for now.  Our park is looking very nice but we still have a hand full of members that don't like to pick up after their dogs. That is a no no. Today is going to be a beautiful day to use the dog park.  Not hot and not much wind to get your dogs out for a good run and for you to take a walk through the trails enjoying the weather.

Sorry about not getting back for update of small breed dog park, I could not get into my blog.

Our meeting was informative.  We are asking the Town of West Bend for 30 more feet of land  south of the small breed dog park.  Waiting to hear from the Town Board for an answer.  We can't go any further with building the small breed dog park until we know if we can get 30 more feet of land.  Our fund raising is still going on.  We are in need of funds for the fencing and concrete slab for the entrance area and the service gate. We have $6,000.00 so far and we need $6,000.00 more to complete the fencing and concrete slab.  We have Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center sponsoring 3 doggy waste stations, 4 sponsors for benches and we need sponsors for the 4 benches we have left.  $125.00 for the wooden benches.  Please send a donation to ....

What a beautiful day to run your dogs at the West Bend Dog Park.  I was at the dog park last night and the park was rockin as usual.  This week is suppose to be a good week for the weather.  Just remember to take your dog to the park so they can run off all that energy they have from being in the house all day while you are working.  The best two words in the world to a dog is Dog Park. The dog park is a good way to socialize your dog and for the dog owners to make new friends.  When I am at the dog park, I still look around and think...it took 2 years for our group to get this park up and running, but it was well worth it.

Small dog update....we are still in need of funds for building the small breed dog park.  The most important fund is the fence fund.  Please donate to help us get the fence up by donating any dollar amount you can.

Just a reminder...one of the rules of the dog park is that you can only have 2 dogs per owner or per person in the dog park. I have had several complaints about 3 or 4 dogs in the park with just one owner or person with the dogs. Please......follow the rules of the dog park. The rules are posted next to the kiosk in the dog park as you walk in. I am not up there all the time but I will start going up at the dog park different times and different days checking to see if people have their dog park user fee tag. In order to use the dog park, you must purchase a user fee tag for $25.00 per household annually. If you are asked if you have purchased your user fee tag u must show it and if you don't have it you will not be able to use the park at that time. The tag must be visible at all times. I will ask you to leave the dog park or u can purchase a tag at that time from me and stay at the dog park. checks or cash will be accepted, no credit cards. On the gate as you walk into the park, there is a sign posted about a user fee tag to use the park. It is not fair to all the members that have purchased their user fee tags to use the dog park and the people that don't pay can use the dog park. If you go to Regner Park to swim, u have to purchase a daily pass or a family pass to swim and if you don't have your swim band on you can't swim or u have to purchase a swim band to swim. There are user fee applications located at the kiosk at the dog park or you can purchase one at City Hall in the Finance Dept Mon - Fri until 4:00. One more vent, Please have collars on your dog at all times and leash your dog from the car to the entrance gate and from the exit gate to your car. If you are not in the dog park and your dog does not have a leash on, you could be ticketed if the police see u and there are times when they walk through the park or sit out in the parking lot. Please just follow all the rules and enjoy your time at the dog park..Pam Kidney Treasurer of the West Bend Dog Park.

Saturday was a wonderful day for spreading mulch.  Great volunteers. Thanks to the volunteers that came out to help. We have great members and volunteers at the West Bend Dog Park.  We will need a few more trucks full of mulch to finish up the job.  The trails look very nice.  Today looks like a great day to run your dogs through the park.  A little windy in the open area of the dog park but walk the trails in the wooded area, and the wind is not as strong.

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

FYI.....on Saturday April 18th...9 am will be a day of spreading mulch at the West Bed Dog Park.  If you can help, bring rake, shovel and a wheel barrel to help.

Some Pawsitive News for the Small Breed Park

On behalf of all small dogs, a committee has been diligently at work to accommodate an area specifically for the adventure and fun for your dog and safety and security for owners peace of mind.

To date, we have established a half acre parcel just east of the current dog park entrance. Will be completely fenced, secure entrance, with a few waste stations and a few benches. All is coming together barkfully.

In order to accomplish this feat, or paws; opening this area sooner rather than later, we are in desperate need of donations.

Please consider lifting the spirits of our smaller breeds

Looks like a nice day for a trip to the dog park.  Mr. Sunshine is out and the temperatures in the high 40's.  Starting tomorrow, temperatures should be in the 50's all the way through Friday.  Looks like Mr. Sunshine will be high in the skies.  Looking good for a big run in the park.  With all the cold cold weather lately, our dogs need to get out there and have a great time.  I am sure they miss their friends at the dog park.  Get out there and enjoy the weather all week.

Friday, February 13, 2015

Just a reminder.  With this cold weather, remember to keep your dogs safe from the cold temps.

Sunday, February 1, 2015

FYI...this year we are going to be putting down mulch in all the trails. We also want to do a once a month park clean up with 5 gallon buckets for the volunteers to just walk through the entire dog park to pick up anything that does not need to be in the park. I also would like to walk around the grassy area with volunteers to pick up stones and rocks. Please let me know, when the time comes that you would like to help. My volunteers Cary and Glen suggested these clean ups and mulch laying. I will post something on the kiosk and let you know . We will need wheel barrels and shovels for the mulch.  Please let me know if you would like to help out on those days.....Thanks

The user fee tag application on this blog is for 2014.  I have a message to the blog IT person to help me change to 2015.  You can print this app and until this app is fixed, just cross out 2014 and write in 2015.  Sorry for the confusion.
It's a new year and we are into the 6th season for the West Bend Dog Park.  Just a reminder that you need to purchase a $25.00 use fee tag for the use of the dog park.  This tag is good from Jan 2015 - Dec 2015.
